SEALS-TRUMPETS-BOWLS

The Lamb Opens the Scroll

And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. 2 Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?” 3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it.

4 So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. 5 But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”

6 And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. - Rev. 5:1-7 NKJV (1982)

SEVEN SEALS

Seals on a scroll are broken so the message can be read. I am not certain, but these seals may be a summary of things that take place during the seven trumpets and seven bowls.

1.  First Seal

White Horse - To Conquer

Rev. 6:1-2

Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.” 2 And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer. - Rev. 6:1-2 NKJV (1982)

2.  Second Seal

Red Horse - To Take Peace From The Earth

Rev. 6:3-4

3 When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come and see.” 4 Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword. - Rev. 6:3-4 NKJV (1982)

3.  Third Seal

Black Horse - Scarcity

Rev. 6:5-6

5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.” - Rev. 6:5-6 NKJV (1982)

4. Fourth Seal

Pale Horse - Power To Kill With The Sword,

Hunger, And Beasts of The Earth

Rev. 6:7-8

7 When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” 8 So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth. - Rev. 6:7-8 NKJV (1982)

5. Fifth Seal

Souls Under The Altar Who Had Been Killed

For The Word of God And Their Testimony

Rev. 6:9-11

9 When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed. - Rev. 6:9-11 NKJV (1982)

6. Sixth Seal

A Great Earthquake And The Sun Became Black

And The Moon Became Blood

Men Hid In Caves And In The Rocks of Mountains

From The Wrath of The Lamb

Rev. 6:12-17

12 I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. 13 And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. 14 Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. 15 And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, 16 and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?” - Rev. 6:12-17 NKJV (1982)

The Ones Washed By The Blood of The Lamb

Who Came Out of The Great Tribulation

13 Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?”

14 And I said to him, “Sir, you know.”

So he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. 16 They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; 17 for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” - Rev. 7:13-17 NKJV (1982)

7.  Seventh Seal

Silence In Heaven For About Half An Hour,

Seven Angels Were Given Seven Trumpets

Rev. 8:1-6

When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. 3 Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. 4 And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake.

6 So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. - Rev. 8:1-6 NKJV (1982)

WHEN YOU SEE THE ABOMINATION SPOKEN OF BY DANIEL

THE PROPHET THEN THERE WILL BE GREAT TRIBULATION

THOSE DAYS WILL BE CUT SHORT FOR THE SAKE OF THE ELECT

15“So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), 16then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17Let the one who is on the housetop not go down to take what is in his house, 18and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. 19And alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! 20Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath.

21For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. 22And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short. - Matt. 24:15-22 ESV (2016)

SEVEN TRUMPETS

Based on the seven bowls lasting 3-1/2 years, I assume the seven trumpets last 3-1/2 years also.

1.  First Trumpet

Rev. 8:7

7 The first angel sounded: And hail and fire followed, mingled with blood, and they were thrown to the earth. And a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up. - Rev. 8:7 NKJV (1982)

2.  Second Trumpet

Rev. 8:8-9

Something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea became blood.

A third of the creatures in the sea died. A third of the ships were destroyed.

3.  Third Trumpet

Rev. 8:10-11

A great star fell,  burning like a torch, and fell on a third of the rivers and springs. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood and many men died because it was made bitter.

4. Fourth Trumpet

Rev. 8:12-13

A third of the sun, moon, and stars were struck. A third of the stars were darkened, a third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night.

5. Fifth Trumpet

Rev. 9:1-12

A star fell from heaven to the earth. He was given the key to the bottomless pit. He opened the pit and smoke came out. The sun and the air was darkened because of the smoke. Then locusts came out of the smoke. They were given power like scorpions. They were to harm only those men for five months who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. Men will seek to die but cannot.

The shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were crowns something like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. They had hair like women’s hair and teeth like lions’ teeth.  Stings were in their tails, and they had power to hurt men for five months. The king over them was the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek his name is Apollyon.

6.  Sixth Trumpet

Rev. 9:13-21

The sixth angel sounded and a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God. The sixth angel was told to release the four angels who are bound at the great Euphrates river. These four angels were released to kill a third of mankind. Those who sat on the horses had breastplates of fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow. The heads of the horses were like heads of lions; and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and brimstone. A third of mankind was killed by the fire, smoke, and brimstone. Their power is in their mouth and in their tails

The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues did not repent of their murders, sorceries, sexual immorality, of their thefts.

7.  Seventh Trumpet

     The Rapture

Note this seems like the time of the gathering of the saints, the rapture.

Rev. 11:15-19

15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” 16 And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying:

“We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was and who is to come, because You have taken Your great power and reigned. 18 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, and those who fear Your name, small and great, and should destroy those who destroy the earth.”

19 Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple. And there were lightnings, noises, thunderings, an earthquake, and great hail. - Rev. 11:15-19 NKJV (1982)

The verses from the seventh trumpet indicate the following:

  • the kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and His Christ
  • the dead will be judged
  • the time to judge the dead and reward the prophets and saints, and those who fear Your name. This sounds like the time of the gathering of saints to meet Jesus in the air (the rapture).

JESUS RESCUES US FROM THE WRATH TO COME

9    For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God,

10    and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come. - 1 Thess. 1:9-10 NASB (1995)

CHRISTIANS ARE NOT APPOINTED TO WRATH

8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.

11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing. - 1 These. 5:8-11 NKJV (1982)

HARVEST OF THE EARTH

THE SON OF MAN REAPS A HARVEST OF THE EARTH

14Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is fully ripe.” 16So he who sat on the cloud swung his sickle across the earth, and the earth was reaped. - Rev. 14:14-16 ESV (2016)

This may refer to the catching up of the elect to meet the Lord in the air.

AN ANGEL REAPS

THE HARVEST OF THE WRATH OF GOD

17Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. 18And another angel came out from the altar, the angel who has authority over the fire, and he called with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, “Put in your sickle and gather the clusters from the vine of the earth, for its grapes are ripe.” 19So the angel swung his sickle across the earth and gathered the grape harvest of the earth and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. 20And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood flowed from the winepress, as high as a horse’s bridle, for 1,600 stadia. - Rev. 14:17-20 ESV (2016)

SEVEN BOWLS OF WRATH

Since the kingdom in this period lasts for 42 months (3-1/2 years, Rev. 13:5), then the period of the seven bowls probably  last for  3-1/2 years also (Rev. 13-16).

1.  First Bowl

Rev. 16:2

2 So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. - Rev. 16:2 NKJV (1982)

2.  Second Bowl

Rev. 16:3

3 Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living creature in the sea died. - Rev. 16:3 NKJV (1982)

3.  Third Bowl

Rev. 16:4-7

4 Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. 5 And I heard the angel of the waters saying:

“You are righteous, O Lord, The One who is and who was and who is to be, because You have judged these things.

6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due.”

7 And I heard another from the altar saying, “Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.” - Rev. 16:4-7 NKJV (1982)

4. Fourth Bowl

Rev. 16:8-9

8 Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. - Rev. 16:8-9 NKJV (1982)

5.  Fifth Bowl

Rev. 16:10-11

10 Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. 11 They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds. - Rev. 16:10-11 NKJV (1982)

6. Sixth Bowl

Rev. 16:12-16

Jesus warned that He is coming. Men are gathered at Armageddon.

12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

15 “Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”

16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon. - Rev. 16:12-16 NKJV (1982)

7. Seventh Bowl

Rev. 16:17-21

Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of His wrath.

Great hail fell on men. Men blasphemed God.

17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, “It is done!”

18 And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth. 19 Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell.

And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. 20 Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great. - Rev. 16:17-21 NKJV (1982)
